Did Sarah Palin read the entire prepared text?

Did you listen to Sarah Palin's speech last night? I listened to it and one of the things that stuck out for me was that she talked a bit about drilling for oil, laying pipelines, building more nuclear plants and "clean coal," but not about alternative energy sources such as solar, wind, geothermal -- you know, things we won't run out of. And, of course, nothing was said about energy conservation – trying to use less energy. I read what another blogger wrote about the speech and he said the same thing. But when I looked at the speech text, which was released before she spoke, I found this:

To confront the threat that Iran might seek to cut off nearly a fifth of world energy supplies … or that terrorists might strike again at the Abqaiq facility in Saudi Arabia … or that Venezuela might shut off its oil deliveries … we Americans need to produce more of our own oil and gas.
And take it from a gal who knows the North Slope of Alaska: we've got lots of both.
Our opponents say, again and again, that drilling will not solve all of America's energy problems - as if we all didn't know that already.
But the fact that drilling won't solve every problem is no excuse to do nothing at all.
Starting in January, in a McCain-Palin administration, we're going to lay more pipelines … build more new-clear plants … create jobs with clean coal … and move forward on solar, wind, geothermal, and other alternative sources.

It looks like something of an afterthought but there is the mention. But I did not hear those last 10 words. Did you hear her mention alternative sources of energy?

I also think its funny that they apparently spell out "new-clear" to keep her from saying "nuc-ular."

quadcityimages,
Yeah, that was one of many things I could have written about that speech but blog posts that are short and make a single point seem to have a bigger impact.
About the "new-clear" -- I understand her speechwriter was just assigned to her a few days ago. He probably didn't know whether she could pronounce nuclear and was playing it safe.

My blogging buddy QCE
of the QC Examiner blog emailed her comment on this post directly to me instead of posting it here. Surely she would want everyone to know her opinion on this so I will correct her oversight and post this:

Subject: Going new-clear
To: dvdbarrett@yahoo.com

I see you and your leftwing pal are having fun with the "new-clear" thing and power to ya, since that's all you've got.

The inconvenient truth for you is that the teleprompter malfunctioned and kept scrolling during the applause, so Palin did indeed have to go from memory or "wing-it" until the glitch was corrected.

Here's a link with the information: http://www.redstate.com/diaries/redstate/2008/sep/04/breaking-sarah-palin-winged-her-speech-bec/

QCE,
You have never commented directly to me on anything on my blog before that I recall. Something sure must be stuck in your craw about this whole Sarah Palin thing. I think you rabid Republican partisans are feeling this race slip away from you and it is driving you crazy. You Republican true-believers can whoop and hollar all you want about how wonderful you think she is, but you and I both know that the only thing that matters is how she plays with the swing - undecided voters. And all the polls and focus groups show that those people are extremely unimpressed with Sarah Palin and the more partisan she is and the more you guys whoop and hollar in response to her insults, lies and mocking of Barack Obama the less the undecided like it.
This race is starting to look more and more to me like Barack Obama"s Senate race where the Republican opposition sort of self-destructed and just went away, leaving Obama the the winner by default.

Your left-wing pal
Dave

Dave, there is no reason to believe the right winger post. Palin is against alternative energy and it's about one thing and one thing only. It's called the PF, the Public Fund, the cash Alaskans get, personally, every year for the oil. She won because her short term solution that is in fact hurting all Americans gives each Alaskan a couple of thou every year. I heard this year it's up to $3000. I'm doing some research on it and will be posting more about this.

one correction, it's called the Permanent Fund. My isn't that optimistic of them.
