Is Ignorance Republican Party Policy?

Check out Paul Krugman's column in this morning's New York Times:

...know-nothingism — the insistence that there are simple, brute-force, instant-gratification answers to every problem, and that there’s something effeminate and weak about anyone who suggests otherwise — has become the core of Republican policy and political strategy. The party’s de facto slogan has become: “Real men don’t think things through.”

I guess I am a little more optimistic than Paul Krugman. He thinks this appeal to ignorance and stupidity may well win for John McCain. I have hopes that the images of people dying in the aftermath of Katrina because the government was not there when they needed it had enough of an effect that when people go into that voting booth they will vote as if their lives depended on having competent, thinking people in the federal government.

The Republicans think voters are rock stupid. They therefore will, without shame, say any ridiculous thing they can imagine with no regard for being even remotely true, and then hope that its appeal to people's inner jerk will be enough to sell it.

It simply is beyond dispute that the Republican party, and their campaign strategy, is all about what is the very worst in people's natures, and what are the absolutly most unproductive, destructive, divisive ideas and attitudes possible.

The supreme irony is that McCain recently issued the unbelievably crude notion that Obama would rather lose a war in order to win an election.

McCain and the Republicans have shown over and over again on a daily basis that they're more than eager to drag this country to it's knees, sow division, fear, mistrust, and lunatic notions, and in the process replace political debate and discourse with unhinged thought, creating essentially a nation of psychologically unbalanced people who in the end don't have a clue what the truth is, and with nothing to rely on except a pack of fantasies dreamed up by Republican operatives... in order to win an election.

They've managed to dumb down the process to the point where it's below grade school. And that's not an exageration.
