It takes a brick-paved street to cry

Click picture to see it full-sized.

In the part of Moline where I live there are a number of old brick-paved streets. I took the above picture a block from my house. Apparently the winter was hard on the streets around here. This is 18th Avenue betweeen 12th and 13th Streets. That section of the street is now blocked off but a number of cars scrapped their bottoms on this hazard before the barricades were put up.

Yesterday I saw a lady with her car on top of the brick mound and a police car beside her. I bet it recked the bottom of her car!

I bet you already know how they are going to repair those. Thats right, concrete!

Actually, the Moline City Council has instructed the street repair people not to repair the brick streets with concrete patches any more. As a consequence the streets have to get this bad before they do anything, because fixing brick streets by taking up the bricks, leveling the bed and then replacing the bricks is more work and more time-consuming than just slapping a concrete patch on it.

Good news! They're doing the right thing.

It is very interesting for me to read that article. Thanx for it. I like such themes and everything that is connected to them. I definitely want to read a bit more on that blog soon.
