Cinco de Mayo in Moline

The Cinco de Mayo celebration on Saturday at the Bass Street Landing in Moline
It was a beautiful day in a beautiful place. The weather was perfect.

The Cinco de Mayo celebration on Saturday was organized by Viva Quad Cities and Casa Guanajuato. Above is a Mexican food booth manned by volunteers from Casa Guanjuato

someone should have called the INS.

Called the INS? I can imagine the conversation. You - "there are a bunch of people who are interested in Mexican culture and history all gathered together in a group in Moline, having a good time. I suspect that some of the people could be illegal immigrants."
The INS - "Really?! So if we come down there and ask everyone there to prove they are in the country legally we may find some illegal immigrants? I don't imagine the city council members, Viva Quad City board members and other dignitaries will mind us crashing their party and asking for their papers. It will be a chance to show all those important people how we do our jobs. Great! We'll get right on it!"

These illegal immagrants are taking all of our jobs and clogging up the school system.

"..taking all our jobs". Taking your job?!? With all your advantages, being legal, speaking English, educated, etc. you are still losing out in the job market to illegal immigrants?!? That's hard to believe. Those jobs that the illegal immigrants are doing are the ones where they take anyone who shows up. If you showed up wanting to work I bet they would hire you.
"..clogging up the school system.." What do you mean? You can't possibly mean that if the children of illlegal immigrants were not in the school then the teachers would be able to devote more attention to your children. If there were fewer students instead of having a smaller classes they would consolidate with another school farther away.
Throughout the history of this country offering free public education to all has always been an investment that paid off. How is the current wave of immigrants different from the previous waves such that it is no longer in our interest to educate them?

The previous immigrants were legal and payed tax's to pay for the costs.

Not paying taxes?!?
Are you getting your information from Fox News or talk radio or something?

Of course illegal immigrants are paying taxes just like everyone else. How could they not?!? They pay sales tax on everything they buy and property tax on houses they own and when they rent the property tax is included in the rent, just like everyone else. And just like everyone else, unless they are paid in cash under the table they have income tax withheld from their pay. The only difference was that without a SS# they could not file a return and get the refund they were due back. This was such a huge problem (because there were so many illegals having income tax withheld) and was so unfair that IRS set up a way that they could get a special number (called an ITIN number) which cannot be used in place of a SS# to get a job, but once they have a job it can be used instead of a SS# to file a return and get a refund back. Millions of illegal immigrants are doing this and the taxman, the employers and the illegal immigrants are all fine with it.

When it comes to paying taxes the only color that matters is the green of your cash.
